INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE PRIMARY YEARS PROGRAMME (IB PYP)(Year 2)

Notification from IB:

At the school’s request, the IB has suspended the authorization of Ascensia International School to offer the Diploma Programme and Primary Years Programme. During the suspension of authorization, the school is not offering the suspended programme to allow for identification and shift to a new campus location, promotion of the IB PYP and DP in the local community, recruitment of IB Diploma candidate and PYP students, the activation of PYP and DP programmes within two years. The school expects to resume teaching the Diploma and Primary Years Programme in the 2025 academic year pending successful efforts to restore.

Course Objectives

Primary education plays an important role in shaping children into healthy and strong individuals both physically and psychologically. To guide young learners in this early phase of their lives, Ascensia International School (AAIS) embraces educational philosophy advocated by global trends** and adopts the International Baccalaureatte Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) for its young learners through inculcating in the learner the Learner Profile attributes, and learning through inquiry-based courses and activities, as well as transdisciplinary units. Learning is a lifelong journey indeed. Entry Requirements

Minimum Age:
  • Year 1: 6 – 8 years old
  • Year 2: 7 – 9 years old
  • Year 3: 8 – 10 years old
  • Year 4: 9 – 11 years old
  • Year 5: 10 – 12 years old
Academic Level :
  • Year 1: Completed Kindergarten or equivalent level
  • Year 2: Completed IB PYP Year 1 or equivalent level
  • Year 3: Completed IB PYP Year 2 or equivalent level
  • Year 4: Completed IB PYP Year 3 or equivalent level
  • Year 5: Completed IB PYP Year 4 or equivalent level

Mode of Internal Assesments

Six assessments are done a year on each transdisciplinary unit based on the rigorous IB PYP criteria and use a range of methods and approaches to gather information about a student’s learning which include but is not limited to observations, rubrics, exemplars, anecdotal records, artworks, presentations, performances, projects and exhibitions, and Standardized Tests for English and Mathematics conducted at the end of each semester.

Course Completion

  • Student must attain a minimum of 90% attendance to complete the course.
  • A certificate will be awarded upon course completion
